Viper

The chemist who poisons the ground

“You want to breathe? You should have stayed home.”

THE STORY OF VIPER

Sabine, known inside the protocol under the codename Viper, is a brilliant American chemist and one of the very first agents recruited. Where her colleagues handle Radianite or cutting-edge technology, all she needs is the thing she does best: building compounds nobody wants to breathe.

Her past is marked by a betrayal she never talks about openly. That event reshaped her for good: cold, sarcastic, methodical to the point of cruelty, she trusts nobody anymore, not even her own teammates. Her relationship with Brimstone, the other veteran of the protocol, swings constantly between professional respect and barely contained tension.

Viper stands for a simple, uncomfortable idea: you do not need supernatural powers to be the most dangerous person in the room. Her chemical weapons do not recharge on their own, forgive nothing and demand constant management, exactly like her. She is the most demanding agent on the roster, and probably the deadliest in the right hands.

HOW TO PLAY VIPER

01
Fuel is your real resource

Poison Cloud and Toxic Screen draw on the same fuel gauge, and it drains nonstop while they are up. A good Viper cuts her gas the moment it stops being useful. Leaving a wall running for a whole round means having nothing left when it actually matters.

02
The wall does not go up at random

Toxic Screen crosses the entire map: pointed the wrong way, it cuts your own team off as much as the enemy. Take the time to learn two or three reliable placements per map instead of improvising every round. It is the ability that asks for the most preparation outside the game.

03
Snake Bite wins post-plants

Vulnerable is what makes Snake Bite unique: an enemy caught in it takes double damage. Throw it on the Spike as the defuse starts and let your teammate finish the job. Two charges, two defuses denied.

04
Viper's Pit is saved for the plant

The classic mistake is popping the Pit on defense to delay an entry. Its real value is on the post-plant: you see everything, they see nothing, they decay on the way in and have to dig you out blind. Be patient, the ult is worth a full round.

THE VALORANT CONTROLLERS

ROLE: CONTROLLER

The architects of the battlefield. Seven agents who cut sightlines, slow the enemy push and set the pace of every round.

EVERYTHING ABOUT VIPER IN VALORANT

Viper is the most demanding agent in Valorant, and probably the most punishing one for a beginner. Unlike the other controllers, whose smokes recharge on their own, she runs on a fuel system shared between Poison Cloud and Toxic Screen: manage it badly and it leaves her with no utility at the worst possible moment. In exchange, no agent shapes the ground like she does. Her wall crosses the whole map, Snake Bite doubles the damage enemies take, and Viper's Pit turns a post-plant into a nightmare. She has been in the game since launch in 2020 and remains a pillar of the competitive meta on several maps.

Three reasons stack up. First the fuel management: Poison Cloud and Toxic Screen share a gauge that drains nonstop, which forces you to turn your gas on and off at the right moment. Then the wall placement, since it crosses the whole map and can put your own team at a disadvantage if it is pointed the wrong way: you have to learn precise positions map by map. Finally, her impact is delayed: unlike a duelist, a good Viper play does not show up right away. Those three constraints give her the longest learning curve on the roster.

Viper has a single fuel gauge, shared between Poison Cloud (Q) and Toxic Screen (E). As long as either gas is active, the gauge drains. Once it is empty, both abilities are unusable until it refills, which takes time. The right habit is to only run the gas during the windows where it genuinely helps, on the execute or on the retake, and to cut it as soon as the situation is under control.

Enemies who walk through a Snake Bite pool get the Vulnerable status: for a short moment they take double damage from every source. In practice, a rifle bullet that would deal 40 damage deals 80. That is what makes Snake Bite far more dangerous than a plain molly, and what makes it the most effective post-plant tool in the game against a player going for the defuse.

Viper, real name Sabine, is an American chemist and one of the very first recruits of the VALORANT Protocol. She has no Radianite-based power at all: everything dangerous about her comes from her command of chemical compounds. Her past is marked by a betrayal she rarely discusses, which explains her cynicism and her distrust of her own teammates. Her tense relationship with Brimstone, the other veteran of the protocol, is one of the recurring narrative threads of the Valorant universe.
