The Story Cinematic analysis

SHATTERED

The story steps through the mirror. A first incursion onto Omega Earth, where the agents find a city under a dome and their own faces on figurines.

The SHATTERED cinematic is a fascinating continuation of “Duality”, where the universe of Valorant widens to reveal the existence of doubles, or clones, of the agents we know so well. Those doubles come from another dimension, Omega Earth to be precise, a parallel version of our own world.

THE CINEMATIC, SCENE BY SCENE

The arrival through the portalFirst incursion

From the very start of the cinematic, we see Killjoy, Reyna and Neon make a striking entrance through a vortex portal, into an unknown base. Brimstone, over the radio, directs them to locate the radianite. He voices his concern that the enemy may be turning radianite into a weapon, which marks a shift in their strategy: “we are done playing defense”.

The attack and the hack

The action steps up quickly, as our agents come under attack from what look like guards, either robots or men in pressure suits. While Reyna and Neon unleash their powers to create a diversion, Killjoy puts her expertise to work and hacks into the system of the base.

The discovery of KilljoyReversal

She then uncovers a crucial piece of information: contrary to what everyone believed, the enemy is not developing weapons, but a life support system based on radianite.

The clash between Reyna and ViperShared past

A major clash breaks out between Reyna and Viper. This is where the weight of the past between them comes to the surface. A line, “alma por un alma”, escaping the lips of Reyna, hints at a desire for revenge and could carry deep implications. Elements of the game suggest a tie between Viper and a young girl, most likely dead after an experiment or an illness. Reyna may hold Viper responsible for the loss of that girl, which feeds her rage against her.

The store on Omega EarthRevelation

The cinematic ends inside a store of the parallel universe, where the agents of Valorant are adored, turned into figurines and other promotional goods. That Omega Earth is clearly a different place: the city lies underwater, protected by a glass dome.

This new episode paints a rich and complex universe, going deeper into the relationships between the agents while raising even bigger stakes for the future of Valorant.

ANALYSIS OF THE CINEMATIC

Interpretation

The cinematic lays out a series of gripping events that plunge players and fans into the universe of Valorant in a new and immersive way:

Doubles and clones of the Valorant agents

The idea of doubles or clones is a popular plot device in science fiction, often used to explore themes of identity, duality and fate. In the context of Valorant, it adds a layer of complexity to the lore of the game.

Omega Earth

This notion of a parallel dimension, or of an alternate world, is another common trope of science fiction, and it offers rich ground to explore “what if” scenarios. It also gives an opportunity to explore alternate versions of the characters we know and love.

The mission

The mission to recover the radianite and to find out what the enemy is doing with it is a gripping narrative thread. It also gives a sense of imminent danger.

Fights and abilities

The staging of the fights and the use of the powers of the agents show their skills and their roles within the team, while delivering thrilling action.

The discovery of Killjoy

The revelation that the enemy is using radianite for a life support system rather than for weapons is an interesting twist. It can call the morality of their mission into question, and set up an ethical dilemma for the team.

A parallel world where they are heroes

The idea that the Valorant agents are seen as heroes in that alternate world is fascinating. It could mean that, in that world, they played a major part in saving or in destroying that dimension.

The underwater setting

The sight of a city under a dome, beneath the water, is striking to look at and offers a unique perspective on what may have happened to that Omega Earth.

Reyna and Viper

Reyna says “alma por un alma” before taking aim at Viper. That line is in Spanish, and it translates literally as “a soul for a soul”. It is an expression that can suggest a desire for revenge or for balance, a sign that Reyna may want to avenge someone or something.

In conclusion

This cinematic looks like a fascinating addition to the story of Valorant, going deeper into the lore of the game, bringing in intriguing new elements and giving players a fresh perspective on the characters and the world of the game. It could also serve as a prelude to new maps, skins or game modes based on that Omega Earth.
