THE RADIANTS

Those whom First Light transformed. A fraction of humanity endowed with abilities that science cannot explain, and the way most players get into the lore.

In the boiling world of VALORANT, the Radiants stand apart as a category of agents all their own, not because of their gear or their training, but because of their intrinsic nature. In the wake of the mysterious, worldwide event known as “First Light”, some people began to display supernatural abilities, the result of their interaction with Radianite.

A SOCIETY THAT ACCEPTS THEM

Unlike other worlds where individuals with supernatural powers are often shunned or feared, the Radiants of VALORANT seem to be widely accepted within society. That could be explained by their active part in various world events, or simply by a broader acceptance of supernatural phenomena in the wake of First Light.

HOW THEY CHANNEL THEIR POWERS

A detail the game slips in without ever spelling it out: several Radiants lean on an object to master or steer their abilities. Some are ancient artifacts, others are recent pieces of technology.

The orbs of Sage She shapes orbs of crystallized Radianite herself to channel her abilities. Prolonged use makes crystals appear on her body.
The amulets of Skye A set of figurines carved out of wood, representing the local wildlife, that serve as a medium for summoning her creatures.
The mask of Yoru An ancestral mask handed down through his family, which helps him find his bearings when he crosses the rifts in reality.
The gauntlet of Astra An artifact that lets her contain her powers instead of enduring them.
The regulator of Neon A piece of technology, and not an ancient artifact, designed to help Radiants master their abilities day to day.
A hereditary component

Genetic makeup seems to determine the way a person reacts to Radianite, which would explain the enormous variety of abilities observed. Two examples back that lead: Reyna and her sister Lucia have similar powers, and Yoru shares his with a samurai ancestor.
