HOW DO YOU PICK YOUR AGENT?

Valorant has 29 agents split across 4 distinct roles. Every agent carries a unique kit of 4 abilities: one signature (free), two you buy and one ultimate. Which agent suits you depends on your playstyle, on your team composition and on the map.

Beginners should start with agents that have a gentle learning curve, like Sage, Brimstone, Phoenix or KAY/O, before moving to more demanding ones like Astra, Viper or Yoru, which ask for deep map knowledge and good timings.

THE COMPLETE VALORANT AGENTS GUIDE

Valorant is a tactical FPS from Riot Games where every match pits two teams of five players against each other, each playing an agent with unique abilities. Since its launch in June 2020 the roster has grown to 29 agents across 4 roles: Duelists, Initiators, Controllers and Sentinels. Every role fills a precise tactical job, and the synergy between the agents of a composition is what wins rounds.

Valorant currently has 29 playable agents, split across 4 roles: 8 Duelists, 7 Initiators, 7 Controllers and 7 Sentinels. Riot Games adds new agents to the roster regularly, usually one per act, so roughly every two months.

Six agents stand out for their easy-to-read kits: Sage (intuitive healing and support), Phoenix (classic offensive abilities), Brimstone (simple smokes straight from the minimap), Omen (forgiving controller play), Gekko (information and openings with retrievable creatures) and KAY/O (direct flashes and suppression). Each one lets you contribute to the team without deep map knowledge. Our guide to the best Valorant agents for beginners details when to pick each of them.

Duelists create openings and hunt the first frags. Sentinels hold zones and shut down flanks. Controllers block sightlines with smokes and dictate the tempo. Initiators gather information and pry enemies out of their positions. A balanced composition usually includes at least one agent from each role.
