Clove comes from Scotland, the youngest recruit in the VALORANT Protocol and probably the most disconcerting. Where the other agents treat death as a limit, Clove treats it as a passing inconvenience.
That easy relationship is not bravado. Clove's power is tied directly to the border between life and whatever comes after, a border the protocol has never managed to document properly. Clove goes, comes back, and describes the experience with a lightness that makes everyone uncomfortable, starting with teammates who have a very concrete reason to fear getting shot.
On the field, that inverts the logic of the role completely. Every controller has to stay alive to keep covering their team. Clove does not. The smoke goes out even from the floor, and the round carries on as if nothing happened.
Clove instantly absorbs the vitality of an enemy they have just downed or killed, which grants them a speed boost and temporary HP.
Clove throws a fragment that bursts after a short delay and briefly makes every enemy it hits Vulnerable.
Clove places opaque clouds at range that block vision over the chosen areas; they can use this ability even after death.
On death, Clove can briefly return to life; if they do not get a kill or an assist in that window, they die for good.
This is the reflex that separates a decent Clove from a Clove who wins rounds. Once you are down, do not let go of your keyboard: your smoke and your Meddle are still available. Keep covering your team's entry from the death screen, they lose none of your map control.
Placement goes through the tactical map, which takes a moment during which you are no longer watching the game. Decide where you are going to smoke before the round starts, not while your team is already moving up. The time you spend in the map is time you cannot see anything coming.
Unlike a normal heal, the ability only activates after a recent kill or assist. It therefore has no defensive value: it rewards aggression. Take your duels, and use the speed boost and the temporary HP to go straight into the next one.
Getting back up in the middle of nowhere is the best way to die twice. Trigger Not Dead Yet while enemies are still close and exposed, so you have a real chance at the kill that validates your return. If the site is already empty, save it for the next round.
Clove is the most unusual controller in Valorant and the only agent in the game able to act after being eliminated. Their smoke and their decay ability stay usable once they are down, and their ultimate lets them come back into the round outright. That quirk inverts the usual logic of the role: where every other controller has to survive to keep covering the team, Clove turns their own death into a resource. Added in March 2024, this agent is also one of the best picks in solo queue, since they do not depend on teammate coordination to stay useful.
The Ruse smoke and the Meddle decay ability stay usable once the agent is down, as long as the charges have not been spent. In practice, a player eliminated early in an execute can keep covering the enemy sightlines while the team takes the site. That is the central specificity of the agent, and the one beginners forget most often: the natural reflex after dying is to let go of the keyboard, when that is exactly the moment Clove still has value.
The ultimate is not cast while alive but from the eliminated state. Clove comes straight back into the round with a countdown on screen: if no kill or assist is earned before the timer runs out, the death becomes permanent again. The right habit is therefore to activate it only when enemies are still nearby and exposed. Getting back up on an already empty site amounts to spending the ultimate on a few seconds of survival with no consequence.
Yes, it is one of their main strengths. A lot of controllers lose much of their value when the team is not playing together, since their smokes exist above all to cover other people. Clove stays useful even on a disorganized team, thanks to a signature ability that gets stronger after every frag and an ultimate that offers a second chance without depending on anyone. This is an agent built to be self-sufficient.
Clove comes from Scotland and is the youngest recruit in the VALORANT Protocol. Riot Games has not released a real name for this agent, whose power is tied to the border between life and what follows it. Their writing rests on a deliberate contrast: Clove approaches death with a lightness and a humor that clash sharply with the gravity of the rest of the team, which fuels a lot of in-game dialogue.
